America’s farmers depend on phosphate to grow much of the food we eat. But right now, this essential resource is not recognized on the U.S. Critical Minerals List—a designation used to prioritize materials vital to our national interest.
It’s time for that to change.
Phosphate is essential. It boosts crop yields and is a pillar of modern agriculture. And while the U.S. has the ability to produce phosphate here at home, we still rely heavily on imports—and global supply is increasingly unstable.
China and Russia, who control nearly 40% of global exports, have already imposed export controls. That means American farmers and families are vulnerable to supply chain shocks.
Adding phosphate to the Critical Minerals List would send a powerful signal: We’re serious about securing America’s agricultural future.
