Rare earth elements power much of the technology we rely on every day, from smartphones and electric vehicles to satellites and defense tech.
Today, 96% of global rare earth processing happens in China.
But the largest surface stockpile of rare earths outside of China?
It’s in Florida.
For decades, the EPA has required the industry to store PG, a normal byproduct of phosphate product manufacturing, in gypstacks. And PG contains both light and heavy rare earth elements, including high-value materials critical to supply chains and national security.
Scientists and engineers are working now to unlock Florida’s REE reserve. The goal? Turn what we’ve discarded into something America’s high tech supply chains can count on.
